Finding America's Hero -- posted by Ryan Michaels

While we're waiting for our story to be picked up and worked on, we characters from the Spell got together and decided to help out another of our author's characters, Austin Quinn, by telling the world about his contest. It started today and the winner will be announced on November 10 -- the Marine Corps birthday. That's a special day for me too because before becoming an ATF agent I was a Marine. So here's the scoop:

FINDING AMERICA'S HERO CONTEST
In America's Hero Austin Quinn plays America's Hero,
Major Cass Winters IS America's Hero
Now is your chance to nominate America's Hero and Help me find Austin Quinn

America's Hero is my newest time travel and due out with Champagne Books (www.champagnebooks.com) in March 2009. Austin Quinn is a Hollywood hottie and he has played not only some of the greatest heroes America has seen, he's also played such icons as Achilles and Robin Hood in his movies.
Major Cass Winter is a Marine Corps F/A-18 pilot who just wants nothing to do with the Hollywood hunk. Through a freak incident, both are thrown back in time to before the walls of Troy.

FINDING AMERICA'S HERO CONTEST is a two part
contest with hopefully something for everyone.

Part One is your chance to help me find Austin Quinn. His picture will be on, among things, my website, myspace and blog as well as being able to say "I'm the human reality of Austin Quinn from Regan Taylor's book America's Hero".

The winner will have his photograph featured on Austin Quinn's page on my website and on his own blog, a $25 Amazon.com gift certificate, $25 Starbucks gift card, a download of a Champagne book of choice, a jigsaw puzzle of an air craft carrier and an autographed copy of America's Hero when it is released in print.

Details to nominate Austin Quinn with appropriate links are on my website at www.ReganTaylor.com.

Part Two is finding who your American Hero is--is he the young man who shovels snow for the elderly lady next door? The woman who volunteers for the literacy project? A firefighter rushing code 3 to a fire?

From July 4, 2008 through August 31, 2008 you will have your chance to nominate this hero by going to Austin's Blog at http://austinquinn-americashero.blogspot.com and entering a comment on who your hero is. The winner will receive a $25 Starbucks gift card, $25 Amazon.com gift certificate and the download of their choice from Champagne Books.
Both contests will have nominations open until September 1 (Labor Day) the voting will begin for who epitomizes who a true hero is based on the stories told about this amazing individuals. Voting will run until November 10, 2009 (The Marine Corps Birthday and the day before Veterans' Day). (You will need to leave your email so we can contact the winner.)

Very Special Agents by James Moore, ATF Retired

I'm really big on being factually accurate, even in fiction. When I started writing Ryan from The Spell back in 2003 -- yes, it's been through a ton of re-working as I honed Kelly, the heroine -- I tried to find an ATF agent to make sure he was factually accurate. Not a one. They are truly the epitome of the strong silent type.

As an agency they have been bounced around from umbrella agency to umbrella agency and all the while maintained their professionalism. I knew this from things I'd seen, but finding someone to ask about it wasn't happening. Then I came across Mr. Moore's book and what an eye opener. And....he confirmed in the opening chapter that they are indeed the guys who hang in the background do their job and go home.

So, now, with that in mind -- what kind of powerful spell would make even a stalwart guy like Ryan take the left hand lane?

Do you believe in Reincarnation?

Do you think you lived before?

When you meet someone have you ever had an instant like or dislike to? Someone who you instantly felt comfortable with or someone you felt an unexplainable urge to run from?

What about love at first sight. Did you ever think that maybe the feeling of falling in love at first sight is because you knew and loved this person in another life time?

When you read a romance (primarily) did you ever think that you had a favorite time period because on some level you remember being alive then?

My belief in reincarnation and unfinished business was one of the main underlying factors in writing The Spell. What if reincarnation exists and rather than just going along, living your life, you did something to take control and stop the natural progression of things. How long would it take to set things right? Would you know? Or would you keep repeating the same cycle over and over again until it was almost too late?

Rewrites for the New Year

During a rough few months at the day job I won a critique from a fabulous agent and she really inspired me so The Spell, as the first book is now called, has undergone some seroius reworking. I feel a lot stronger about it and think it's going to be a tighter read. It's with an editor and BETA reader right now so I'm excited to see where it goes from here.
